Entry from: Doubtful Sound, New Zealand Entry Title: "Doubtful Sound" Entry: "1 December and it's nothing like the usual December at all! Well, it's threatening to rain, so you could say it is. Off to do and overnight trip on Doubtful Sound. Wanted to do this on my last trip, but had just finished a three day walk and a bed and a rest (coffee and cake really!) looked the better option at the time! I was off with Deep Cove Adventures who run a small motor cruiser in the Sound for 6 people. Met up with Bill and Melissa, from New York, first. They were on their honeymoon and were gorgeous - we got on straight away. The first leg was to cross Lake Manapouri in one of the bigger ferries then meet Chris, our host, and the other guests at the other side. Steve, Pam and Stephanie were all from California and Steve and Pam were on holiday visiting Steph their daughter who had been at Uni in NZ for a year. So that's everyone! We headed up over Wilmot Pass, literally a road from nowhere to nowhere. It was one of the most expensive roads in the country and links Lake Manapouri to Doubtful Sound, primarily to service an underground power station, but helps tourists like us have a fabulous trip. Once over the pass, the sun came out and all was well. We settled ourselves into the boat and headed out into the ...

"Everyday Life Part One" Liznrob's photos around Carnarvon, Australia (western australia)

Entry from: Carnarvon, Australia Entry Title: "Everyday Life Part One" Entry: "25 April 2009 Everyday life - what not to wear Before we left New Zealand we did a lot of trawling through the internet to see what other people had to say about their travels around Australia. There is a heap of great info and all sorts of people have written about all sorts of topics. I found a lot of this information really helpful but I couldn't find any really basic "outback travel for dummies" type info. So if you have stumbled across this blog and are planning to do some camping through Western Australia, for what they are worth here are some thoughts. Bear in mind that there are only two of us travelling in a 4WD with a tent, doing a lot of bush camping. If you are a family group or travelling with another sort of set up you will be facing a whole different set of issues! Going feral - your feet are always dirty (as is the rest of you). The bush camps, and a lot of the official campgrounds, are just sandy clearings so you are always walking in sand. The red dust gets everywhere - even after a nice, hot shower - by the time you have walked back to your tent you're dusty again. You really need to wear sunscreen every day here so you put this on in the morning all over, get wind blown and covered with dust all day + a ...

"Life on the ocean wave" Adfieldbigtrip's photos around Airlie Beach, Australia (tardus boat)

Entry from: Airlie Beach, Australia Entry Title: "Life on the ocean wave" Entry: "G'day from down under to all you good sheilas and blokes! Hope all is well in pomme land! Well here we are in Australia, the half way point of our trip which is all a bit scarey indeed. We arrived into Sydney airport just about 2 weeks ago now where Dave's boots were promptly confiscated by Pest Control and only returned after a thorough power hosing - perhaps not the best introduction to Australia for us or the other poor people on our flight who had to suffer the smell of Dave's sweaty feet - thankfully no holes in the socks though!! We then met up with Dave's family, who had travelled out for a 2 week holiday, before hopping on a flight up to Cairns to start our 5 week travels down the east coast of Oz. We had a relaxing few days in Cairns generally enjoying the fabulous coast and beautiful weather. Thanks to the loan of Dave's parent's hire car we also spent a day in Mareeba wetlands, part of the Atherton Tableland, where we were treated to our first sight of a wild young kangaroo. Without a doubt however the main event was the day we spent out snorkling the Great Barrier Reef, which was just fantastic. We joined a tour which travels further out on that part of the reef than many of the other boats so that we ...

"Climbing Mount K, Are You Mad?" Irax's photos around Mount Kinabalu, Malaysia (mount k's tour)

Preview of Irax's blog at TravelPod. Read the full blog here: www.travelpod.com This blog preview was made by TravelPod using the TripAdvisor™ TripWow slideshow creator. Entry from: Mount Kinabalu, Malaysia Entry Title: "Climbing Mount K, Are You Mad?" Entry: "As I said in a previous post, Mount Kinabalu stood at 4095.2 meters ASL (Above Sea Level). I was starting at sea level and within 24 hours I'd be shivering triumphantly at the top, completed in four stages, this is my story and how I achieved success. Stage 1. Getting out of bed 7am, not an easy start I can tell you, I managed to get some toast with lashings and lashings of peanut butter to fill up on fuel for my walk to catch the bus. The journey was two hours long with smatterings of trying to be social and continuing with my sleep. It was tough. We arrived at Park HQ, about 1600 ASL, 88KM from KK. After an amount of bureaucracy that I've not seen for a while we were allowed to start climbing. Apparently the paper work is to do with making sure everyone that goes up makes it back down.... Stage 2. A very quick 4K I originally thought that the park HQ was the starting point of the trail, but no, myself and my happy group of travelers bounded into a minibus and were driven 4KM up a windy road to the Power Station (A real indication of how Malaysians treat their rainforest), I'm now 1866 meters ASL, almost halfway, and it's been a breeze. Stage 3. Hike to Laban Rata, when the going gets tough, I start complaining An ...
